Enjoy huge, high-definition video in your own home theater with the 50-inch Hitachi 50VS69 LCD projection HDTV. One-third slimmer and less than half the weight of a comparably-sized CRT-based projection model, this LCD set features a high output light source, advanced prism system, and a three-panel 720p LCD Light Engine with an 11-element lens system to produce an exceptionally bright, sharp picture. Improvements along the light path include special filters and polarizers that ensure brighter whites and darker blacks. Its industrial design features minimal bottom speakers to create an ultra-sleek form factor as well as a silver and black finish for a striking modern look.
You'll enjoy 480p, 720p and 1080i high-definition viewing right out of the box thanks to the built-in digital ATSC tuner, which pulls HD signals right from the airwaves. You can also connect the set to an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box using either the HDMI or component connections (thanks to its built-in QAM tuner for unscrambled cable HD reception). An analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. This set performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. A 3D Y/C comb filter (4 MB) further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Rounding out the features is an anti-reflective diffusion screen, multiple color temperatures, black enhancement, three HD aspect modes, six SD aspect modes, and split screen/picture-in-picture capability.
A separate Day and Night Memory for each input ensures the optimum picture quality during the daytime or nighttime for each source. Simply press the Day/Night button on the remote or use the automatic timer to switch between bright daytime settings and high-fidelity nighttime settings.
